Maerd Site
Taper Shelves
There is an area in Taper Shelves where deer miraculously show up to die. When the old or sick feel the fangs of death approaching they’ll wander to this sacred site and lay down to drift away. Many are comforted by the “singing rock” that casts an peaceful shadow onto the dying animals at certain times in the day. When wind hits the arch and passes through the hole a whistling noise is made. Bones are scattered everywhere in the dark sandy depression. And often the stench of death and decay haunt the deer bones.
